About the restaurant

Home-style baekban meals by a lady who once ran a side-dish business

Matnamui Gwangjang is a home-style Korean restaurant in Gupyeong-dong. The lady of the house, who used to run a side-dish business, makes a colourful spread of side dishes and the main dishes. Rather than sticking to a fixed menu, the restaurant serves home-style baekban (rice with soup and side dishes) that changes a little every day.

The menu centres on dishes made with dried radish greens (siraegi): cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste stew), seonjiguk (ox-blood soup) and siraegi stone-pot rice. The restaurant also serves gochujang bulgogi grilled directly over a coal-briquette fire.

Our other signature dish

Janchi Suyuk 잔치수육

Have you heard of old-fashioned janchi suyuk?

It is traditional boiled pork as it was served at feasts in the old days — sliced thin and dipped in a soy sauce.
